For the first time since its inception in 2016, Ayurveda Day will now be celebrated on a fixed date — 23rd September each year, as officially notified by the Government of India through a Gazette notification issued in March 2025.
Until now, Ayurveda Day was observed on Dhanteras (Dhanwantari Jayanti). This move to adopt a fixed date marks a historic change, giving Ayurveda a universal presence on the global calendar and encouraging broader international participation.
Announcing this year’s theme — "Ayurveda for One and All, Ayurveda for the Planet" — the Hon’ble Minister of AYUSH (Independent Charge) and Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare, Shri Prataprao Jadhav, stated:
“Ayurveda is not merely a healthcare system but a science of life grounded in the principle of harmony between the individual and the environment. Declaring 23rd September as Ayurveda Day is India’s step toward giving global recognition to Ayurveda. The 2025 theme reflects our shared commitment to harnessing the full potential of Ayurveda for global well-being and planetary health.”
Adding further, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH, said:
“Since its inception in 2016, Ayurveda Day has evolved into a global celebration of India’s traditional knowledge. The first All-India NSSO survey showed that Ayurveda is the most widely practiced healthcare system across both rural and urban India. The 2025 theme underscores our dedication to advancing holistic health and environmental balance.”
The 9th Ayurveda Day (2024) marked a significant milestone in India’s healthcare journey, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Phase II of the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) in New Delhi, launched four Centres of Excellence in Ayurveda, and flagged off the nationwide campaign "Desh Ka Prakriti Pariksha Abhiyan" — along with other health-related initiatives worth approximately ₹12,850 crore.
Building on this momentum, Ayurveda Day 2025 is being seen not merely as a ceremonial event but as a step forward in establishing Ayurveda as a solution to contemporary global challenges such as lifestyle disorders, climate-related illnesses, and stress management.
The celebrations will include awareness campaigns, youth engagement programs, wellness consultations, and international collaborations coordinated by the Ministry of AYUSH and its institutions. Notably, in 2024, Ayurveda Day was celebrated in around 150 countries, reflecting Ayurveda’s growing global reach and relevance.
